Apple and iPhone 5

Posted on 05 November 2012 by admin

At events across the country, the long awaited iPhone 5 has been launched in India. Featuring a larger 4″ screen and a much more powerful A6 processor, the iPhone 5 is a major step up from the iPhone 4S. The phone is now incredibly slim with a thickness of just 7.6mm. The svelte smartphone is also remarkably light weighing just 112gms.

The latest version of Apple Inc.’s iconic iPhone is expected to do swifter sales in India than previous incarnations, analysts say.

The iPhone 5 will be available on retail shelves in India starting Friday, but Apple fans have already started pre-ordering the smartphone from Apple’s local telecom carrier partners Bharti Airtel ltd. 532454.BY -0.75% and Aircel Ltd.

Information on Bharti Airtel’s website showed that the iPhone 5 is priced at 45,500 rupees ($847) for the basic 16 gigabytes version. The 32 GB variant is priced at 52,500 rupees and the 64 GB version at 59,500 rupees.

To meet demand for the iPhone 5, specialized distribution companies and mobile phone companies have together placed orders with Apple to ship 100,000 iPhone 5s to India to meet demand, says G. Rajeev, a senior market analyst with research firm IDC Inc, who closely tracks the smartphone market in India. This compares with 25,000 units ordered prior to the launch of the iPhone 4S, he adds.

Latest Tech News.Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system

Posted on 26 October 2012 by admin

Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system:

Windows 8 heralds the biggest change to the industry’s dominant operating system in at least 17 years with attempts to bridge the gap between personal computers and fast-growing tablets with its touch-enabled interface.

Microsoft Corp put its Surface tablet center stage at its Windows 8 launch event, hoping the sleek new device will spark a fightback against Apple Inc and Google Inc in the exploding mobile computing market.

With interest in traditional computers waning, the world’s largest software company is attempting to reinvent the Windows PC in a new format and directly challenge Apple’s all-conquering iPad.

One person called it historic, unique, said Steven Sinofsky, head of Microsoft’s Windows unit and the driving force behind Windows 8, who opened the launch event in New York in front about 1,000 media and PC industry partners.

It’s twice the amount of storage as a competing tablet for the same price, Sinofsky said, comparing the entry level 32 GB Surface with the cheapest 16 GB model of Apple’s latest full-sized iPad, which both cost $499.

HSDPA-The New protocol for MobilePhone Data Transmission

Posted on 02 November 2010 by admin

HSDPA, short for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access, is a new protocol for mobile telephone data transmission. It is known as a 3.5G technology.

HSDPA  standard will provide download  speeds on a mobile phone  equivalent to an ADSL  (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) line in a home, removing any limitations placed on the use of your phone by a slow connection.

HSDPA improves the data transfer rate by a factor of at least five over W-CDMA. HSDPA can achieve theoretical data transmission speeds of 8-10 Mbps (megabits per second). Though any data can be transmitted, applications with high data demands such as video and streaming music are the focus of HSDPA.
