Centre hikes in minimum support price of Kharif crops


The Centre today decided to increase Minimum Suppport Price for Kharif season of 2012-13 for various food grains.A decision to this effect was taken at the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA which met in New Delhi this morning.

Inflation rises to 7.55 % in May 2012

Inflation rose slightly, to 7.55 per cent in May this year, from 7.23 per cent in April, because of a spurt in the prices of potatoes and pulses, although onions and fruits showed a declining trend.Inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index, had stood at 9.56 per cent in May last year.


India, US sign pact for installation of first American nuclear reactor in India


The US firm Westinghouse Electric and the Nuclear Power Company of India Ltd., NPCIL have signed a preliminary pact for an Early Works Agreement, EWA for the installation of the first 1,000 MW American nuclear reactor in India under the historic 2008 Indo-US civil nuclear deal. The signing of the MoU, coincides with the third Indo-US Strategic Dialogue headed by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and External Affairs Minister S M Krishna.


Sensex loses over 70 pts in noon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange fell 36 points to 16,845 in early trade, today, as funds and retail investors booked profits after recent gains, and amid weakness on the other Asian bourses.Later, the Sensex lost some more ground, and stood 73 points, or 0.4 percent in the red, at 16,807 in afternoon deals, a short while ago.


24 killed, 15 injured in Gujarat road mishap

In Gujarat, 24 people, including 8 children, were killed and 15 others injured in a road mishap on the Sanand-Viramgam Highway in Ahmedabad today.Police said, the mishap took place at 5.30 am when the vehicle, laden with salt sacks, skidded off the road, which was slippery due to overnight rains.


Indonesian Open: Saina Nehwal enters quarterfinals of Womens Singles

India’s shuttle queen Saina Nehwal today stormed into the quarterfinals of the Women’s Singles category of the Indonesian Open Badminton tournament in Jakarta.In the pre-quarterfinals, fifth seeded Saina defeated Aprilla Yuswandari of Indonesia, 21-17, 14-21, 21-13, making it to the last eight stage.
