Mantralaya fire: Mumbai Police registers case of accidental death


Mumbai Police has registered a case of accidental death after three persons died in the massive fire in the Maharashtra state secretariat last evening.The Marine Lines police have registered a case in the incident and are investigating the matter. Forensic experts have visited the site as part of an inquiry being conducted by police.They collected samples from the spot for probing the cause of the blaze.

 

All India quota PG medical seats: SC notice to six states

The Supreme Court has asked six states to reply to the allegations that they were usurping the Post Graduate medical seats for the all-India quota by not disclosing the vacant seats in their medical colleges. A vacation bench of justices H L Gokhale and Ranjana Prakash Desai issued notices to Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana on a petition by a girl medico.

Taliban suicide bombers attack Kabul hotel; 18 rescued, fighting still on


Three suicide bombers attacked a lakeside hotel north of Kabul, taking hostages and staging an hours-long gunbattle with Afghan security forces. Police said that the bombers, armed with machines guns, rocket-propelled grenades and vests laden with explosives, attacked the Spozhmai hotel at Qargha Lake around 11 p.m.

Sensex trading down 124 pts in late morning deals

The BSE benchmark Sensex was down by 124 points to 16,909 in the late morning session due to selling from operators mainly in metal, refinery, banking and realty counters, triggered by fall in the overseas market. The 30-share barometer, which gained 326 points in last three sessions, fell by 129 points to 16,903 with in few minutes of trading.

25 fire tenders rushed to douse Delhi godown blaze; no casualties reported

In New Delhi, a fire broke out in a scrap godown and adjoining slum behind G.B Pant hospital in central Delhi this morning.Around 25 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Indian Mens archery team qualifies for London Olympics

Indian men’s archery team secured Olympic berth beating Australians in the qualifiers at Ogden in US. The Indian team comprising Tarundeep Rai, Jayanta Talukdar and Rahul Banerjee thrashed Australia by a handsome 221-209 margin in the semifinals of the archery event.
