Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured the Lok Sabha today that every effort will be made to achieve the envisaged four percent growth rate in agriculture during the 12th Five Year Plan.Intervening during the question hour, he said the Plan targets will be matched by adequate resources.


Delhi HC reserves order on IPG's plea against restraint to strike


The Delhi High Court today reserved its order on a plea by a section of Air India pilots against a single-judge order which restrained them from continuing their illegal strike by reporting sick and staging demonstrations.A two judge bench is likely to pronounce its order on Thursday on the plea by Indian Pilots Guild (IPG).


India largest importer of arms surpassing China: Govt.

The government today said India has become the largest importer of arms, surpassing the Chinese share of five per cent of global arms imports during 2007-11.In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Defence Minister A K Antony said as per a report published in March 2012 by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), India has become the largest importer of arms during 2007-11 and accounted for 10 per cent of global arms import as compared to Chinese share of five per cent.


US slaps sanctions on two aides of Dawood Ibrahim


The United States has placed sanctions on two top Indian aides of former Mumbai underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.The Treasury Department has named Chhota Shakeel and Ibrahim Tiger Memon as key drug traffickers.

Rupee at 5 month low, down by 47 paise against dollar

The rupee today fell five-month low by losing 47 paise to 54.26 against the US dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in early trade on increased capital outflows amid strong demand for the American currency. The rupee had touched a record intra-day low of 54.32 on December 15, 2011.


DDA to set up separate unit for quake-prone buildings

The Delhi Development Authority, DDA, has decided to set up a separate unit to address the problem of unsafe buildings in the national capital.The unit will work for reconstruction of those buildings which have been considered vulnerable to earthquakes.


IPL-5: KKR to take on Mumbai Indians
